This is a pullover with a pattern of hearts framed by moss stitch. The yarn is Katia Papiro, a blend of 53% cotton/47% linen, so it is soft as well as quite strong. The color is a bright red. It is a pullover, but because toddlers get impatient with pulling garments over their heads, I have made a button placket on the left shoulder that closes with two white pearly buttons - this makes the neck larger and easier to put on. There are six hearts on the front and another six on the back. I knit this in the round so there are no seams at the sides or the sleeves. Measurements: 9" across shoulders; 9.5" across at underarms; 7" sleeve length; 11.5" length from top back to hem.

Welcome to Knitting Grandma!

I have been knitting for at least 7 decades, and yes it's true: I have a grandson who really called me Knitting Grandma! I love to knit for babies and children, and most enjoy making up my own patterns, so my garments are one of a kind.
If "hand knit sweater" makes you think of itchy wool, things have changed! I will admit to being a yarn snob. Life is too short to use cheap yarn! In the past decades there's been lots of development of innovative fibers and blends, like bamboo-sourced yarn. I favor natural fibers; my favorites are alpaca, merino wool, silk, and their blends. I will always try to tell you the yarn used for each garment.

A word about sizes: all babies are different and believe it or not, sweater size charts charts are all different too. I have included measurements for my garments to end confusion. But you don't have to chase a wiggling toddler with your tape measure: just find a garment that fits with some growth room and measure that.
All these pieces are washable: wash with other garments and dry flat.
